2008 Predictions: Part II of a Four Part Series

2. The price of gasoline will hit $3.75 a gallon.
Rationale: Regardless of who wins the White House the United
States
will continue its pressure on Iran and Venezuela while
trying to put instability in
Iran to rest once and for all.
A. Iran in particular has continually shown disregard for
U.N. sanctions and has continued to harass its neighbor Israel.
Whilethis is done in part to keep the radical clerics and
their puppet Ahmadinejad in power, it could well backfire.
Israel
, the United States, or a joint coalition could use an
air strike to disable the nuclear program. Iran has already
promised retaliation.
B. Oil is currently priced in dollars. If the dollar
continuallydepreciates, then a commodity such as oil will cost
more dollars.
C. Unless government leadership (Congress in general and the
Executive Branch in particular) puts the oil executives in
check, then this will be seen as a green light for continued
record profits.
D. Hugo Chavez may be the President of Venezuela. However,
itappears that he is interested in being more vocal about his
supportof other Leftist regimes. This will cause further
instabilityto South America
and another oil exporting
country.

Maybe the Real Question Becomes...What companies
are working with the Russians to the oil resources
of that region!

Brian, I hope you are right that gas is only going to $3.75. It might go over $4.00. I know Bush went to the middle east to try and keep the OPEC nations trading oil in dollars. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad if it did switch to Euros. I'm not saying it should because I don't know what all the ramifications would be. That would be interesting to explore or find out more information on. Any thoughts?

BP made a $6 billion investment in Russia about 5-6 years ago, I'm sure it's going to pay off. Your point about the dollar is not lost on me...if the Chinese decide to unpeg this country would literally fall into the ocean with only a blurbblurb as we went down....
